Property Licence Scheme 2020 - 21 January 2021

Time: 12-1pm
Venue: Online - Microsoft Teams

We want your views on plans to improve housing standards in privately rented homes.

Newcastle City Council is consulting on re-designating Selective Licensing Schemes for private rented accommodation in Byker and Greater High Cross.

We are having a number of live online Consultation events using Microsoft Teams where you will be given the opportunity to watch a presentation about the proposals and ask questions.  The final event will take place on Monday 11th January 2021 between 12 and 1pm (there will be another one on Wednesday 18th November between 4 and 5pm).  You can log in live and watch the event, or you can go view the event any time after it's taken place.

If you have any questions about this, or you need this information in another format, such as large print, please contact us at: letstalk@newcastle.gov.uk. Thank you for taking part.

Background

Before we can introduce a licensing scheme, we have to show why we think this kind of scheme is needed, what kind of problems it is trying to tackle and why we think Selective Licensing is the only option left. We must consult with all affected people, such as tenants, residents, landlords, managing agents, businesses, charities, Police, Fire Service, local councillors etc. It is very important that we gather as many views as possible and that we give proper consideration to these views.

To make sure that we consult fairly we are using a variety of methods to reach stakeholders, these include on-line questionnaires, and virtual events and workshops.

The formal consultation process starts on Monday 9 November 2020 and lasts for 12 weeks, ending on Sunday 31 January 2021.
