The Council have made an Order to allow Electric Scooters to use bus lanes, cycle lanes and highways in Newcastle upon Tyne* where the speed limit is 30mph or less on an experimental basis for up to 18 months. Only Electric Scooters hired from a company authorised by the Department for Transport for the purpose of operating Electric Scooters within the City of Newcastle upon Tyne will be permitted. Electric Scooters not hired as part of the trials will remain illegal. *Electric Scooters will not be permitted on High Level Bridge. Consideration will be given to making this permanent in due course.
