Public Spaces Protection Order 2023 - This consultation has now ended

This consultation ran between 1-31 May 2023.
We are seeking to continue our Public Spaces Protection Order which we first consulted on in 2020. Details can be found here: Newcastle Public Spaces Protection Order 2020
Before making a Public Spaces Protection Order, the council must consult with the police, and it is strongly recommended that it engages in an open and public consultation to give the users of the public space the opportunity to comment on whether the proposed restriction or restrictions are appropriate, proportionate, or needed at all.
Therefore, on-street consultation will take place during May 2023 in various locations across the city. We did our best to ensure that several areas within the city were covered which are known to have higher footfall, to ensure as many people as possible had the opportunity to partake. in addition, Newcastle’s Business Improvement District (NE1) ensured that there was proportionate consultation directly with businesses.
The locations of the on-street consultation were:
  • Shields Road
  • Byker Retail Park
  • Chillingham Road
  • City Centre - Northumberland Street, Monument and Central Station
  • Gosforth High Street
  • Kingston Park Retail Park
  • West Road
  • Adelaide Terrace
  • Lemington - Asda
  • Throckley - Sainsbury’s.
