Post-16 SEND Transport Policy 2026/27 - public consultation

Following feedback from families and the city's councillors in the autumn term in 2024, we have looked again at our transport policy for post-16 learners with SEND. We want to know your views about our revised policy which sets out how we are going to support young people over the age of 16 who have SEND and who may need help to get to school or college. Please take a few minutes to complete this form and share your thoughts on this.
Before you start, please read through the draft policy statement. You can find this below in Word or PDF format. We also include the letter we've sent out to families about this, in case this is helpful (also in Word or PDF format):
Please use the form below to give us your views. If you would like a direct link to it so that you can open it in a new window, use this: https://forms.office.com/e/E20hqPCs6N
We are asking everyone to submit only one response per person.  However, we know that sometimes people want to add to, or change, their responses. If you want to do this, you can save a copy of what you have told as a PDF, or print it, by choosing 'print response' at the end of the form. If you later want to change what you have told us, you can email us at: SendTransportService@newcastle.gov.uk or call us on: 0191 277 8886 and we will add this into what you have already told us on this form.
You can also leave feedback by calling us at the number above and leaving a message, emailing us at the email address above, or writing to us at: Post-16 SEND Transport Consultation, SEND Transport Service, Newcastle City Council, Floor 3, Civic Centre, Barras Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8QH
We will also be having drop-in events for people to give their views in person as follows:
  • Thursday 1 May, 5-6pm, Gosforth Library, Regent Farm Road, Gosforth
  • Tuesday 6 May, 1-2pm, Galafield Centre, Newbiggin Lane, Newbiggin Hall
  • Monday 12 May, 10-11am, Carnegie Building, Atkinson Road, Benwell
  • Friday 23 May, 10-11am, Byker Sands Family Centre, 19 Raby Cross, Byker

If you have questions about how you can take part, or you need the information in another format, such as large print, please contact us using the contact details above.

This consultation closes at 5pm on Sunday 25 May 2025. Findings will be used to help the Council's Cabinet to make a decision in July 2025. We will publish the results on the Council's website and here on Let's talk Newcastle Online. Thank you for giving us your views.
