Please give us your views on food and food culture in Newcastle, to help us recommission the Food Newcastle partnership.
What is Food Newcastle?
Food Newcastle is a city-wide partnership. It aims to: "foster a sustainable food city by building networks which connect organisations, the local public sector, and individuals to promote good sustainable food to improve quality of life in Newcastle upon Tyne".
What do we want to do?
We are looking to recommission the organisation that hosts and coordinates the Food Newcastle partnership. As part of this, we want to consult with local community and voluntary organisations, system partners (organisations that do anything with, or have a perspective on food and food culture), and Newcastle residents. What people and organisations tell us will help us 'sense‑check' the strategic direction of Food Newcastle, clarify expectations about what it does, and to ensure our recommissioning decisions are informed by partners, organisations and residents’ perspectives on food in Newcastle.
Who we want to talk to
To help us understand what Newcastle’s 'food culture' should look like over the next five years, we will engage with voluntary, community and faith‑based organisations, food partners, professional and system partners, and residents with lived experience, working with trusted organisations to help us reach people. By 'food culture', we mean 'how people get, share, enjoy, and value food in everyday life – at home, in communities, and across the city'.
How we will do it
We are using a combination of this short online survey, targeted conversations, small focus groups, and informal discussions to gather people's views.

What will happen next
We will analyse findings to identify key themes, challenges, strengths, and priorities. The resulting insights will be used to shape Food Newcastle recommissioning decisions, including the future role, focus, and expectations of the partnership. We will share a summary of findings and key feedback themes on Let's talk Newcastle Online following the recommissioning process, around October 2026.
