Adult Community Activities (Day Service) Survey 2026

Please tell us about your views on our Community Activities (Day Service) for adults in Newcastle.

We are asking for feedback and opinions of people who have experience of using day services privately or through the council, as well as feedback from their carers, relatives, and family members. ' Community Activities' are places provided by social care services that people can go to for a few hours to socialise, exercise or learn something new.

Why we want to hear from you
We are doing this because we are currently recommissioning the 'Community Opportunities – Community Prevention Service' contract, which is the contract we have with organisations that provide these Adult Community Activities (Day Service). We want to know what people think about these services, to help inform our decision-making when we award the contract.

About the Community Prevention Service
This services is delivered by six Link Workers supporting adults across Newcastle, with two based in each locality: East, West, and North. The service provides early intervention to reduce social isolation and help people stay connected, confident, and independent. Link Workers offer one‑to‑one consultations to understand each person’s needs and goals. They then link people to existing Community Prevention groups or create new groups where needed.
A Link Worker or trained volunteer may attend sessions, which usually last around two hours. Carers can join when appropriate, and refreshments are provided. For people who feel anxious or lack confidence, Link Workers offer short‑term personalised support, such as meeting beforehand or using graded exposure. They also help with transport where possible. Attendance and wellbeing are monitored throughout. If someone misses a planned activity, welfare calls are made. If needs change, Link Workers provide further support through referrals, signposting, and connecting people to other services.
  • Eligibility: Experiencing social isolation or loneliness, Aged 55+, Under‑55s may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
  • Referral Routes: No social work assessment is required. Referrals can be made by: Self‑referral, GPs, Social prescribers, Community organisations, Social work professionals, Any other professional or voluntary sector partner.
