Why we are consulting here and on the consultation page linked to above (Commonplace)

Every traffic regulation order (TRO) consultation is posted on Let’s Talk Newcastle Online regardless of the size of the proposal. This is because we need to ensure that each TRO has a dedicated consultation, including for 'High Street, Gosforth - Experimental Bus Lanes Order and Traffic Regulation Order 2023', and 'East Jesmond Area - Low Traffic Neighbourhood - Experimental Traffic Regulation Order 2023'. We create dedicated pages for the wider consultations as a whole to collect feedback over a long period of time on Commonplace, so if those consultations include TROs, then they appear on both platforms. Our consultation reports present the findings from both online forums, and also from emails, letters, phone calls and social media. If you have questions please email us at the email address above.

When we made the decision to remove the experimental traffic restrictions in Jesmond in January 2024, we set out our obligation to talk and work together with residents, businesses, and other interested user groups to develop and engage on a new range of proposals.
The council remains committed to improving the way people move around our whole city and making streetscapes, infrastructure, and connectivity to public transport work better for everyone, whilst reducing the impact of transport on the environment. We know that reducing the volume of traffic through local streets is an important part in achieving this, and our neighbourhood low traffic zones programme was an important way for us to trial changes in our city and learn from them.
There are many different views to consider, so we want to work with you to design the best schemes possible. We continue to receive concerns regarding traffic levels and speeds on the residential streets which new proposals will need to address.
Data will be an important part of this, you may have seen traffic survey equipment being installed at several locations throughout the area. This is to help us understand not only the speed and volume of traffic but also the routes that drivers are taking to travel in and through the neighbourhood. We will share this information on this site when it is available.
This is only the start of the process; these conversations will be ongoing over the coming months as we develop proposals based on your views and feedback.
As a starting point, we would like to gather your views on what you believe are the traffic issues in your area, what works and what doesn’t and what are the obstacles to moving around Jesmond. This information will be collated, alongside the data we collect, and shared with you in early summer when we will hold public engagement events. The Commonplace site will continue to be updated with more details and will direct you on how to join in the conversation in due course - find it here: Community Forum - Jesmond East Trials Consultation. Thank you for giving us your views.
