Tell us what you think about young people’s sexual health services 2025 - This consultation has now ended

Newcastle City Council is reviewing sexual health services for young people as part of a recommissioning process, and we want to understand what’s working well, what could be better, and how we can improve services in the future to make sure they meet the needs of young people in Newcastle.

Newcastle City Council is reviewing young people’s sexual health services. These services are free and confidential. They support young people to make informed choices about relationships, growing up, and staying healthy.
The service currently offers:
  • Advice and support
  • STI and HIV testing (including DIY kits)
  • Pregnancy testing and support
  • Free condoms through the C-Card scheme
  • Help with things like consent, self-esteem, and healthy relationships
  • Peer mentoring and outreach
We want to hear from young people and professionals working in the youth sector about:
  • What works well
  • What could be improved
  • How we can make services better for the future
Your feedback will help us make sure sexual health services in Newcastle meet the needs of young people.
What we would like you to do:
We have created three short surveys as part of this consultation:
  1. Young People’s Survey: for anyone aged 11-25
  2. An EasyRead version of the Young People’s Survey
  3. Professionals’ Survey: for people who work with or support young people
Choose the survey that’s right for you and fill it in. Your views are really important and will help shape the future of sexual health services in Newcastle.
If you simply want to leave a comment, please use the topic wall below.
The surveys will close on Friday 14 November 2025. The results will be published here: Let’s Talk Newcastle – Consultation Results

What we heard and what happens next
Between September and November 2025, we spoke to over 75 people across Newcastle. This included:
 Young people:
  • 46 young people, aged 11–25, from youth groups, schools, and communities across the city
Professionals and services:
  • Around 30 professionals, including youth workers, school nurses, health staff, voluntary groups, and the current service provider
People shared their views through group sessions, meetings, and online surveys.
What young people told us
Young people said the service could be better if it:
  • Is easy to get to, in places they already go, like schools and youth centres
  • Gives clear and honest information about relationships, consent, online safety, and pornography
  • Feels safe and private, with friendly staff who do not judge
  • Is easier to find and understand, as many young people did not know where to go for help
  • Lets young people have a say and shows how their feedback makes a difference
What professionals told us
Professionals said the service needs to:
  • Work better with other services, so young people can be signposted clearly
  • Offer more training on sexual health, relationships, consent, and online harms
  • Be more visible, so staff and young people know what support is available
  • Do more to reach young people who face extra barriers, such as LGBTQ+ young people, young men, and young people not in school
What the current service provider told us
The current provider said the service could improve by:
  • Making better use of online information and social media
  • Collecting better information to understand who uses the service and where gaps are
  • Doing more work on consent, healthy relationships, sexual violence, and online safety
  • Using clear branding, so young people know the service is about wellbeing, not just sexual health
What happens next
All this feedback is being used to design a new sexual health service for children and young people.
The new service will be commissioned in Autumn 2026. For any other questions please contact qhcp@newcastle.gov.uk
Thank you to everyone who took part in this consultation. Please download our ‘You Said We Did’ poster for more information on how feedback has informed the new service specification.
