In November 2025, we want to hear from residents, businesses, community groups and other key stakeholders about what you think of our proposals for developing the Forth Yards area on the banks of the Tyne. Please read on to find out what we’re proposing, and how you can give us your views.
Where is Forth Yards?
The Forth Yards Draft Masterplan covers 36 hectares (52 acres) of predominantly former industrial sites along the north bank of the Tyne – about the size of 50 football pitches.

It describes how this will include different types of housing, as well as spaces for culture, leisure, and businesses, all set around large open areas. The plan also highlights some challenges, such as:
- making it easier for people to get to and around the area.
- dealing with the impact of old industrial sites.
- protecting local wildlife and nature.
- ensuring future developments create an attractive riverside area for the city.

What we want you to do and how you can tell us your views
We are interested in hearing everyone’s views on the vision and principles contained in the Forth Yards Draft Masterplan and what you think should be local priorities for the area, to help shape how the area is redeveloped. The information collected will tell us what is good about the masterplan and what could be better and allow you to tell us what is most important to you.

What will happen next
We will review what everyone has told us in the consultation, and will use this to help shape the final Forth Yards Draft Masterplan. There will be further opportunities to comment on the Forth Yards Draft Masterplan prior to its final adoption by the council at the end of 2026. Once approved it will become a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) that will be used to assess future planning applications in the area. We will publish the consultation findings here on Let’s talk Newcastle Online, and updates on what’s happening will be on the Council’s website: www.newcastle.gov.uk.
